Conditions up to 1 000 litres of fuel

What it is

Fuelnox is a fuel conditioner concentrate for petrol, diesel and two-stroke engines. One 10 ml capful treats 40 litres of fuel. It goes into the tank at the filler, mixes as the tank fills, and works on the fuel system every time the engine runs.

What it does

  • Cleans. Gum, varnish and carbon come off the jets, the injectors, the lines and the tank walls while the engine runs. Dosing at every fill holds the next build-up back.
  • Takes up water. Water condenses out of the damp air in a tank. Fuelnox carries it out through the engine, so far less of it reaches the bottom where corrosion starts and filters clog.
  • Keeps fuel fresh. Petrol and diesel both go off in the tank whether the engine runs or not. Treated fuel stays usable for far longer.
  • Lubricates. A pump and its injectors are lubricated by the fuel crossing them and by nothing else. Fuelnox adds to it.

Starting is usually what shows first, then the idle and the throttle. This is not new power: the engine is getting back what the deposits had taken, over several tanks rather than on the first one. A cleaner system also burns more of the fuel, which shows as less smoke.

How to use it

Two capfuls per 40 litres the first time you treat an engine, then one capful per 40 litres at every fill after that. A capful is 10 ml.

Add it as the tank fills and it mixes on the way in. There is nothing to measure, nothing to stir and nothing to fit.

Tanks under 40 litres are dosed through the can instead. Half a capful goes into a 20 litre can, a quarter into a 10 litre one, added while the can is filling. Everything filled from that can is covered.

Before an engine is put away for a while, use the double dose and run it for a few minutes. That pulls treated fuel through to the carburettor or the injectors instead of leaving it in the tank.

Use it at every fill rather than only before storage. Deposits build a little at a time, so the treatment does most for you when it is in every tank.

What it is safe with

Petrol, diesel and two-stroke, including E5, E10 and B7. One ratio covers all three, so nothing has to be matched to the engine and there is no second bottle for whatever runs on something else.

Seals, hoses, carburettors, catalytic converters and diesel particulate filters are all unaffected, and a carburettor of any age takes the same dose as a modern injection system. The formulation is ashless and contains no sulphur, phosphorus, nitrogen or metallic ingredients, which is what those parts are sensitive to.

Overdosing does no harm. The ratio is a guide rather than a limit, and a heavier dose simply uses the bottle up faster.

What it will not do

It conditions fuel. It does not repair engines and it gives back nothing already lost to wear. A jet that has set solid stays set solid, and a badly fouled system clears over several tanks rather than one.

Water already lying under the fuel has to be drained first. Fuelnox works on the water held in the fuel: it stops a layer from forming, but it will not clear one that has already formed.

A capful at every fill is the cheap end of looking after a fuel system. The expensive end is the carburettor stripped, the tank drained, and the engine in a workshop because it will not start.

This size

250 ml is 25 capfuls and treats 1,000 litres. That is one engine for about a year at every fill: a car, a motorbike, a van or a mower. Where several engines share the same bottle, the 1 litre lasts the year instead of running out part way through.
